Take a deep breath. We’ve only just got over the back-to-school routine and already we’re talking Christmas.

Over at Fota Island Resort preparations are already underway for Discover, their annual magical Santa event and the call is out for elves to lend a hand.

On September 21 open auditions will be held at The Kingsley from 1pm-8pm. The team at Fota are dubbing the event Santa’s Next Top Elf.

Time to get the tinsel out...

For those of us unable to quite afford the overnight rate at the Shelbourne — the hotel that frequently hosted Princess Grace — the venue’s iconic afternoon tea is the very next best thing.

Now they’ve launched a new take on the classic: afternoon tea inspired by the artwork of Michael Flatley.

‘Elvis’ has inspired a salted caramel mousse, raspberry compote and dark chocolate mousse encased in a dark chocolate glaze, while the vivid colours of ‘Playful’ have led to a strawberry macaroon filled with strawberry vanilla cheesecake, rhubarb compote and strawberry pâte de fruit.

Available until November 22, and again from January next year, the classic option is €49. Add champagne and it’s €64. www.theshelbourne.ie
