The motherload of Mother's Day gift ideas

Esther N McCarthy picks out perfect presents for all the deserving mothers out there, from handmade Atlantic seaweed body butter to supersonic hairdryers and fabulous floral jewellery.

Mothering Sunday is March 26, get the breakfast tray out, flowers at the ready and the homemade cards signed. But what’s the one present every mother wants - no matter what age her little darlings are - that money just can’t buy? Peace and quiet.

“I just want no fighting today, just give me a bit of peace.” Sound familiar?

Well, I’ll let you in on a little secret, she wants peace AND a pressie, a bit of spoiling for all she’s done for the family. Like you know, creating life and all. Allow me to present some gifts ideas that should suit all the different types of mammies out there.

Ideally, just leave the pressie on the breakfast tray and then get the feck out of the house for a couple of hours. Happy Mother’s Day!

This is a lovely idea for a present, a painting of the kids shoes - and maybe mammy and daddy’s in there too. Karin Smyth is a Cork artist who began painting baby shoes when her first grandchild was born in 2008.

Each painting is an original and can be commissioned starting from €65.
