Online Lives: Meet blogger Rosie Connolly

Although she had been active online for a few years, it was not until blogger Rosie Connolly became pregnant with her first child that she noticed her online following increase dramatically.

“I was always on social media to connect with friends but it was when I was pregnant with my son that I really saw my following grow rapidly,” said the 27-year-old Dubliner, who today has over 140k Instagram followers.

“I was documenting my pregnancy fashion, as well as make-up and beauty.”

The interest in her style led to Rosie developing her own make-up masterclasses and an accessories brand, as well as becoming a full-time blogger.

“I am a full-time fashion and beauty blogger, touring the country with my makeup masterclasses, collaborating with some amazing brands and creator of ALUXE.ie, my accessories brand,” she said. She ensures she shares the content her followers are looking for regularly.

“I generally stick to fashion, beauty, lifestyle, and day-to-day life as a Mum.”

Her online presence has been hugely beneficial to Rosie, allowing her to be in control of her life and spend more time at home with her two-year-old son, Harry.

“It has given me the option to work for myself, be my own boss, be at home with my son as much as possible. It has introduced me to some incredible people both in the industry and the most important people: my followers.”

Rosie, who prefers photo-heavy social media sites like Instagram and Snapchat, says she has noticed a big change in what people want online in recent years.

“It has changed a lot. There is more focus on imagery and video content now than ever before. Audiences want fast content, they want to see the behind the scenes. You have to adapt to what your followers want.

“Snapchat didn’t exist when I began blogging so I had to adapt to video content when it launched. It is now one of my strongest social media channels.”

Despite her success, Rosie admits she has had to overcome some challenges - namely finding a work-life balance, and dealing with online trolls.

“The bigger your following, the more chance you’ll have of being targeted by online bullies. I have built up such thick skin over the years that it doesn’t phase me anymore but that was a hard adjustment for sure,” she said.

“The other challenge is finding a balance between work life and home life. Knowing when to switch off and be present in the moment has taken some practice.”
