Trend of the week: Suede

This season we're made for suede, says Annmarie O'Connor.

INSPIRATION

If the word ‘suede’ conjures images of over-the-knee boots, hot pants and fringed festival jackets, prepare to adjust your radar. This season, the look has morphed from free-spirited bohemia into a more considered capsule. Think button down skirts, trenches, shift dresses and hobo bags – seasonless style for the savvy shopper.

STYLE HACKS

COST-PER-WEAR

On a budget? Look to practical pieces in darker colours that warrant suede’s heftier price tag.

EASY DOES IT

Garments that boast jersey panelling, especially on the seams, prove less restrictive and easier to wear.

SERVE AND PROTECT

Showers, hail, snow and sleet don’t mix with suede’s open pores. Avoid inevitable water stains by weather-proofing your garments with suede spray.

BRUSH IT OFF

To keep suede garments soft and dust-free, be sure to brush them regularly using short, sweeping motions.
