Trend of the week: Long coats

When it comes to coats this season, the rule is simple – go long, says Annmarie O’Connor.

INSPIRATION

Autumn is officially here and with it the inner dialogue of what to wear outside. Silence the mental chatter with a simple solution – coats with fuss-free lines and floor-sweeping lengths.

From military silhouettes at Chloé, fluid robes at Zac Posen and Dries Van Noten’s reinvented trench – the choice is yours, just makes sure it goes the distance!

STYLE NOTES

* CLEAN AND LEAN: Keep silhouettes simple – layer over a fitted polo and high waisted trousers à la Katherine Hepburn.

* MILITARY PRECISION: Brass buttons give navy wool that borrowed-from-the-boys feel. Pair yours with a silk blouse and skirt or floaty floral dress.

* SUEDE HEADS: Add luxe to your look with textured and tactile suede. Think Ali McGrath with a 2.0 twist!

* ELEGANTLY WAISTED: Tie-waisted styles provide the perfect balance to long lengths especially for more petite gals. For perfect proportions, opt for mid-calf styles instead.
