Trend of the week: Faux sure

Cosy does it in this season’s faux fur, says Annmarie O’Connor.

That fur is faux? Are you sure? Yes ma’am. No more stiff itchy acrylic pelts here. Now fake fabrics boasts a more natural look thanks to savvy advances in technology.

Just ask Stella McCartney, whose ‘Fur-Free Fur’hooded coats were the talk of the autumn winter 15 runways, not to mention Louis Vuitton’s literal leopard print monster-sized mantle.

Now, that’s the real deal!

Tackle the volume of faux fur with chevron stripes which draw the eye vertically for a more balanced silhouette.

Not keen on a coat? Opt for a transseasonal gilet. Pair with a fitted polo and lean separates for 70s-inspired nous.

Texture shy? Patch pockets, panels and trim make a less hirsute alternative to a prodigious jacket, or make like Topshop Unique and opt for a faux-fur lined shoe.

For a softer approach try Mongolian-inspired fur (not the real deal) which boasts a more feathery nap. Ideal for a bag or stole.
