Trend of the week: Black & white summer style

Set sail with breezy summer style staples, says Annmarie O’Connor.

Jets and jetties; parties and passegiatas.

The Riviera lifestyle may seem half a world away but looking the part is black and white really.

The key to mastering breezy chic? Mix monochrome prints with simple silhouettes and retro accents.

If in doubt, just look to runway royalty Dolce & Gabbana or highstreet heroes Hobbs.

GO GRAPHIC: Mix monochrome stripes with tonal floral patterns for a fresh take on print blocking. Tip? Balance geometric proportions with clean tailoring.

GO RETRO: Look to vintage screen star accents like wide brim hats, cat’s eye sunnies and whimsical full skirts.

GO RED: Feeling too washed out? Add a considered pop of red in a neck scarf, nail polish or lipstick.

GO GLOSSY: Balance a clean palette with oodles of polish. Think fresh dewy skin (gently strobed) and a glossy mid-parted ponytail.
