On the red carpet: Maggie Gyllenhaal, Emma Roberts, Heidi Klum, Teyonah Parris

Maggie Gyllenhaal glowed in Oscar de la Renta at the 67th Primetime Emmy Awards in Los Angeles.

The event was packed with colourful, adventurous gowns but her blackcurrant skirt still stood out in the crowd. She accessorised with Fred Leighton jewels.

Emma Roberts chose an antique-rose Jenny Packham dress for the same event. The shimmery shade flattered her fair skin and hair beautifully, though I think simple drop-earrings might have suited the neckline better. She carried a clutch by Lee Savage.

Heidi Klum would look better in a refuse sack than most people would in Versace but the weird, flouncy shoulder detail ruins this look. This gown is part of a collection focused on deconstructed designs but that silk chiffon should have wound up on the studio floor.

Mad Men star Teyonah Parris looks like she is having a ball in all the photos from her Emmys appearance and this princess-style Francesca Miranda dress is surely the reason. It certainly seems like a lot of fun to swish around in and the coordinating belt and polka dots are great.
