Expert tips for flawless summer skin

Castlemartyr Resort was the scene of a luxurious spa event last week.

The five-star East Cork hotel hosted an evening of indulgence to promote their ESPA spa facilities and prepare guests for the summer months, with special guest model and blogger Pippa O’Connor.

The team at The Spa in Castlemartyr were promoting their extensive range of services, providing expert beauty advice. ESPA senior consultant Jane Lewis offered some easy-to-follow health and lifestyle tips and advice, while Gillian Twohig, recently awarded Highly Commended for Best Therapist at the Tatler Awards, gave a demonstration on how to get your body summer ready.

The first step to preparing for summer is reducing stress, says Jane, adding it’s important to achieve a balance between social, family and work or it will take a toll on your health and wellbeing.

Stress can cause harmful toxins to build up in the body. It is important to reduce the amount of toxins in the body to improve health and the appearance of the skin.

She recommends exfoliation and moisturisation before baring your skin this summer.

Exfoliation – A salt scrub is a great way to exfoliate the body. Jane recommends exfoliating in the bath once a week and letting the salt drop into the bath. Enjoy a relaxing soak in the salt water afterwards.

Moisturiser – Using a body serum in place of a traditional cream moisturiser can feel fresher during the hot weather and leaves you with a beautiful summer glow. ESPA TriSerum spray is a great way to hydrate. It absorbs into the skin without leaving a sticky residue and strengthens collagen.

Skin brushing — Brushing towards the heart on dry skin every day boosts circulation and tones the skin. It can also be used for exfoliation, particularly on elbows, knees and ankles and it can be an effective treatment for cellulite.

Healthy eating — Eating white meat, fish, fruit, vegetables and water for a short time can cleanse the system and cardio exercises like walking, swimming, running or cycling regularly are a great way to stay fit. A lifestyle balance is healthier than extreme dieting.

The ESPA team also demonstrated an impressive new product: Airbase Make-up, 65. Unlike traditional foundations which can clog pores, it’s airbrushed onto the skin, giving a smooth and flawless finish. It’s ideal for weddings or whenever you need to be your picture-perfect best — it’s even being used on the X Factor.

Though offering perfect coverage, I found it weightless. There were no touch-ups needed — it can even be layered to hide even tattoos.
