No Plugs

Avoid an over-burdened socket adapter with diminutive, cordless electricals. The Violife Slim Sonic mini electronic toothbrush, €19.95, gives a thorough clean without need of a charger. The tube come in 22 different colours and prints, includes an extra brush-head and is handbag-friendly. Keep hair curly with the BaByliss 2585U Pro Cordless 28mm Hair Tong, €32.99 at Boots. Safe Styling

The scalp is a neglected area when it comes to sun protection. Who wants to grease-up their hair with zinc-oxide white cream? Redken helps your head out with a broad-spectrum SPF styling product. Redken Colour Extend Sun Take Cover SPF25, €16.20, is a lightweight, alcohol-free, conditioning mousse that gives hair body and shine while providing sun protection for the scalp. Just apply to damp or dry scalp 30 minutes before sun exposure and reapply throughout the day, as you would with regular sunscreen.

Hot Legs for Hot Pants

Conceal milk-white pins before you hit the local nightspots with Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs Spray, €13.95, or Lotion, €16.95. This body makeup is water-resistant and smoothes out freckles, veins, and other imperfections. The formula does not streak or stain clothes and showers off with no mess and no lingering colour.

For smooth legs in five minutes, apply Escentially Smooth Hair Removal Cream, €7.99. Choose the “Sensitive” version, which contains skin-soothing aloe vera and lotus flower. The cream smells fairly pleasant. It is cheaper than waxing and saves you carrying a razor and shaving foam. The results last for three to five days.

Finger Painting

You won’t want to waste a precious holiday in front of a mirror. Bottled liquid makeup does not always travel well and brushes take up space. Pack creamy makeup sticks you can finger-blend for healthy, natural looks. Sticks are more hygienic than potted creams and leave more room for souvenirs and shoes.

Clinique Chubby Stick Intense Moisturising Lip Colour in Grandest Grape, €20, is a sexy deep berry shade for evening while Heftiest Hibiscus is a fun pop of colour and shine.

Bobbi Brown’s Long Wear Cream Shadow Sticks, €30 each, let you get arty with eye makeup without need of a contouring brush. Define eyes with Lancôme Khôl Hypnôse Waterproof in Taupe, €21, which can be finger-smudged for a smoky look.

A Revlon Baby Stick, €13.65, will warm the apples of your cheeks with its butter-soft formula and bold colour. To get that all-important sun-kissed look, pack NARS “The Multiple” Stick in Copacabana or Maldives, €40 each. For a luminous glow, try Smashbox Halo Highlighting Wand, €32, which dispenses a gold lotion that won’t leak or separate.

Protect and Smooth

Compact foundations with sponge applicators save you faffing about with brushes. Try The Body Shop All in One Face Base, €21.95, which combines foundation and powder, or Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua Fresh and Hydrating Cream Compact Makeup, €49, which hydrates skin and gives a radiant finish. They blend fast and keep you shine-free in the sun. Remember to use an SPF primer, like NARS Light-Optimizing Primer SPF30, €33, to prevent sun damage as neither compact provides adequate protection. For a light base and sun-protection in one product, try MAC Prep+Prime BB Cream SPF25, €31.

This cream gives sheer to medium cover and is best for normal to oily skin types. Drier skin feels more comfortable in Clarins BB Skin Perfecting Cream SPF25, €33.50, which gives fuller coverage and includes super-hydrating hyaluronic acid.

Protect and Go

Sun protection is an everyday essential (even at home) but can stain clothes and leave an unattractive white-ish cast on skin. La Roche-Posay Anthelios XL SPF50 Stick, €10.95, or Spray, €22, provides maximum protection and takes up minimal space in your carry-on luggage. The formula applies and dries quickly and the twist-up stick is handy for regular re-applications, especially if you plan on traversing a whole city in two days. This can also be used on lips, ears and other easily forgotten spots. If products with sunscreen irritate your eyes, try ophthalmologist-tested Clinique Superdefense SPF20 Age Defence Eye Cream, €39.
