Product Watch: Giorgio Armani Bottles Summer Giorgio Armani Fluid Sheer

June’s new beauty releases celebrate summer with natural glow-boosting, easy-to-wear products. Rachel Marie Walsh reports.

Giorgio Armani Bottles Summer Giorgio Armani Fluid Sheer, €45, is a good buy year-round, so it’s no surprise its complexion-boosting bronze cousin sold out last summer.

Three shades of Liquid Summer, €48, are back on counters this week, part of the brand’s 2015 Maestro Sun Collection. Each leaves skin looking just as dewy and fresh as a Fluid Sheer with the added bonus of a natural tan.

Use all over the face as a sun-kissed makeup base or work into the contours to for a more sculpted, sophisticated look. They also blend well with moisturiser. The formula contains five antioxidant oils and suits all skin types, though eczema-prone skin may be bothered by the mild scent. The added gold-pearl shimmer is subtle enough for daytime and can be toned down with a matte powder or blush if iridescence isn’t your thing. Limited-edition shades of Fluid Sheer in the collection include copper, gold and bronze.

Lancôme Blurs Lines

So many products aim to obscure flaws by playing with reflective pigments. The best light-optimising primers, luminous concealers and light-diffusing foundations employ the distractive powers of a highlighter for subtle, flattering results. Lancôme Belle de Teint Sheer Blurring Powder, €43, creates a flawless finish faster than most. The tinted, talc-based powder neutralises pigmentation issues with eight natural-looking shades. The lightest contain no pearl particles and a relatively small amount of tin oxide (an ingredient often used in anti-dark circle concealers), so effect a radiant-matte, non-glittery glow. Darker hues are more luminous in order to counteract ashen undertones. Belle de Teint’s base formula contains some great skincare ingredients, including apricot kernel oil and tomato lipids. The teeny-tiny amount of fragrance means even very sensitive types can enjoy the look.

Chanel Has The Blues

Makeup artists used products from the brand’s new “Blue Rhythm” collection at the 2015 Chanel Cruise catwalk show in Seoul this month. A “Jazzy Blue” sparkling mascara top-coat, €31.50, sapphire nail lacquers and smoky shades that compliment the line’s blue focus, like grey-pearl eye kohl and black powder-shadow, enhanced the futuristic fashion. The subtle yet effective Gloss Volume, €33, creates a temporary plumped look without irritation and goes on clear as glass. Eyes are key to the Blue Rhythm look, lips shouldn’t distract too much. The silky powders in the “Tissé Jazz” Multi-Effect Quadra Eyeshadow Palette, €50, let you create smoky-blue eyes with minimum effort.

bareMinerals Pop of Passion

bareMinerals new lip and cheek collection offers skin hydration in fun summer shades. The Pop of Passion Blush Balm, €23, has a sheer, lightweight texture you can build to create bold “pops” of colour. A base blend of castor seed oil and candelilla and carnauba waxes makes the blush glide on. Available in three flattering pinks, the balm leaves cheeks glowing and suits all skin types. Pop of Passion Lip Oil-Balm, €19, provides pout-plumping moisture in eight wearable shades, from neutral to bold. The emollient-rich texture creates a slightly glossy stain. Sunflower seed and jojoba oils give the formula an antioxidant boost.

Product of the Month: by Terry Sheer Expert Foundation, €49 by Terry is the makeup and skincare brand of Terry de Gunzberg, creator of YSL Beauté’s celebrated Touche Éclat highlighter-concealer.

Her foundations tend to have similar properties: full coverage, light-diffusing pigments and an impressive capacity for colour correction. Can her take on sheer makeup deliver a similarly flawless face? Well, Sheer Expert’s colour correction is certainly excellent. Despite beauty’s current obsession with mattes, I do like the brightening effect of this foundation.

I can’t see anyone with acne going concealer-free while wearing it and the formula is a bit too emollient for the very oily. Still, it doesn’t highlight pores and will neutralise inflammation. The creamy texture feels light but comforting and the shade range is very natural. A great foundation choice for summer.
