Spring starts early in the beauty world and with it comes gorgeous new makeup launches in time for Valentine’s Day.

How cute is Chantecaille’s Save the Bees eye palette, €90? The French brand aims to raise awareness about the dramatic decline of nature’s pollinators, donating 5% of profits to help protect them. Inspired by colours seen in both the bees’ natural habitat and on the Paris catwalks, it’s a real treasure for your dressing table.
Available @Net-a-Porter.com and Space NK Dundrum Shopping Centre.
Sweets for your Cheeks (and Lips)
Benefit adds to its range of lip and cheek stains with Lollitint, €34.50, an orchid-pink shade that looks straight out of Barbie’s makeup kit. The liquid tint has a quick-dry, luminous finish. Despite the apparently strong colour, it goes on quite sheer and can be built to suit any skin tone.
The New Nudes
Clinique has picked up on the Spring catwalk trend for nude makeup in a big way with its new “16 Shades of Beige” collection. Choose from Neutral Territory 2, €39, an eight-shadow nude eye palette, and eight beige hues of A Different Nail Enamel, €16 each, the brand’s collection of ophthalmologist-tested polishes for sensitive skin, .
Bobbi Brown elevates neutral tones with her jewel-inspired “Nude Glow” collection. These products work best with matte foundation, as sparkly makeup on a luminous base can create a greasy look. The Brightening Finishing Powder, €55.50, gives cheeks a subtly flush. Use a large brush and it gives an all-over glow. The Pink Gold Sheer Lip Colour, €26, enhances your skin tone. Get glowing eyes with the Nude Eye Palette, €45, which holds shades of nude, cement sparkle, ballet pink and dove grey. To get Katie Holmes’ (above) pretty look in the ad campaign, Bobbi dusted nude over the lids and lined the upper lashes with a grey pencil. She applied ballet pink to the inner corners and lined the lower lashes with dove grey for subtle definition. She finished with black mascara.
Estée Lauder’s new Pure Colour Sculpting Lipsticks, €29 each, offer hydrating, richly-pigmented colour. The formula contains hyaluronic acid to keep lips supple and has a radiant finish. The line’s 30 colours last for up to six hours and continue moisturising throughout. Shades like Impassioned and Dominant are perfect for Valentine’s Day.
Nearly naked skin was very popular at the Spring shows, with artists reaching for pore minimising primers backstage at Roberto Cavalli and Isabel Marant. Try Dior Pore Minimizer, €41.50, or Benefit The POREfessional primer, €34.
If you daren’t go so bare, two great new foundations perfect your skin without concealing it. Elizabeth Arden Flawless Finish Perfectly Nude Makeup, €36, is a comfortable, lightweight base infused with soft-focus mineral crystals and complexion-perfecting, moisturising ingredients like soy lipids, vitamin C and carob.
Lancôme’s newly-reformulated Miracle Air de Teint Foundation, €39, feels light as air and has a super-sheer finish. The light-diffusing formula blurs imperfections without need for extra coverage. A dropper cap ensures you waste none. This product also comes in an impressive range of colours, so you’re sure to find that all-important perfect match. Keep in mind that the SPF15 provided by both these foundations isn’t enough protection from UV rays.
More Lashes, Less Cash
Max Factor’s new Extreme Volume Excess Impact Mascara, €16.99, offers maximum volume for a bargain price. You’ll be batting up a storm after using the right end of the wand to thicken your lashes and the left to add colour and curl.
For something more creative, try L’Oreal Paris Miss Manga Mascara, €11.99, in aqua or plum. Inspired by the girl-women characters in Japanese Manga comics, the cone-shaped wand thickens and separates lashes for a wide-awake look.
