Laura Mercier did the make-up for the models at the Jenny Packham show at New York Fashion Week; below, some of the Laura Mercier products used.
Jenny Packham’s designs always strike me as “date clothes”, as though she hopes to catalyse her ready-to-wear fans’ (who include Blake Lively and the Duchess of Cambridge) transition into customers for her bridal collection. Laura Mercier did the make-up for the English designer’s recent show and the look was boy-friendly and perfect for attending a spring wedding.
The catwalk collection was inspired by the elite intellectual salons of 17th century Paris.
Lead artist Talia Shobrook says she wanted the girls’ faces to look similarly “rich and expensive”, but also nearly bare. “They exuded a subtle confidence.”
Talia began by moisturising the face and applying Laura Mercier Foundation Primer Radiance, €41, to create an even canvas for the makeup.
She then smoothed on Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20, €48, to give the skin a hint of sheer, dewy colour. Depending on the model’s complexion, she applied Laura Mercier Crème Smooth Foundation, €60, or Laura Mercier Silk Crème Foundation, €48, to hydrate and smooth or illuminate and protect the skin, respectively. Crème Smooth is recommended for mature skin, as it contains anti-aging Dermaxyl and light-diffusing particles to smooth wrinkles.
To contour the cheeks naturally, she blended Laura Mercier Crème Smooth Lip Colour in Angelic, €27, over the cheekbones and applied Laura Mercier Crème Smooth Lip Colour in Pink Blush, €27, to the apples, to create a pretty flush.
Beginning with a subtly base, Talia applied Laura Mercier Eye Basics in Tawny, €30, along the eye crease to create definition. She then applied Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eye Colour in Seashell, €30, on the inner and outside corner of the eyes.
Next, Talia blended Laura Mercier Luster Eye Colour in Bamboo, €27, under the bottom lash line. To complete the eyes, she applied Laura Mercier Faux Lash Mascara, €30, (currently available in Black, available in Sierra Brown from April).
To create a feminine lip, Talia applied Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eye Colour in Seashell onto the Cupid’s bow. She finished by lightly dabbing Laura Mercier Crème Smooth Lip Colour in Pink Blush all over the lips, using the colour itself as a liner by applying it with the side of a lip brush.
