Pianist Syme in demand

American pianist David Syme has become a familiar figure on the Irish concert circuit in recent years.

David divides his time between homes in Houston, Texas, and Adrigole on the Beara peninsula in west Cork.

In Beara, David frequently throws open his home for concerts. Maureen O’Hara has been a guest, and Christy Moore has been a guest and an impromptu performer. In Jul 2011, one of David’s ‘at home’ concerts was featured by presenter Mary Kennedy on the RTE’s Nationwide.

David enjoys an international career as a performer and recording artist. He has recorded 25 concertos with such orchestras as the Royal Philharmonic, London Philharmonia, the Vienna Symphony and the Czech National Symphony. He specialises in the work of Gershwin, and his rendition of the composer’s Concerto In F is regarded by many as the definitive version of the piece.

David Syme performs at the Fernhill Hotel, Clonakilty this evening (Tues, Aug 14) and the Triskel Arts Centre, Cork on Friday, Aug 17.
