The Art Of Asking is as much about the modern music business, the value of art, and surviving the internet as it is about Amanda Palmer, her cabaret punk band, The Dresden Dolls, and her world touring.
While, initially, the book feels a little idiosyncratic in style, jumping spontaneously from the present to the past and keeping you guessing, Palmer gives a great deal of insight into her life.
There is an array of intriguing tales from life on the road, which reminds us just how real the people performing on stage can be.
This book will be inhaled by Palmer’s fans, but should also be embraced by those unaware of her.
I didn’t know much about Palmer before reading the book, but that didn’t matter, because even if you have no interest in her music, this book is fascinating, and honest.
She certainly has the skill to capture a host of inspiring characters and stories for the reader.
