Woman: Partner looked like a half-shagged monkey

The partner of a man, who is charged with stealing an ATM, using a stolen digger in Tubbercurry in 2014, told gardaí that he looked like “a half-shagged monkey” when he came to her home, within hours of the alleged theft.

Bridie Wynne, who was living in Coolaney at the time, said the hands of Bernard Quigley, with addresses at Branchfield, Drumfin, Teeling St, Tubbercurry and Lisnaskea, Co Fermanagh, were also covered in scrapes, in a statement to gardaí.

The witness yesterday agreed at Sligo Circuit Court saying that she might have said he looked “absolutely drowned”.

But she denied a suggestion from defence counsel Alan Toal that she had done everything in her power to “bury his client” by allegedly interfering with a laptop belonging to the defendant and then reporting the matter to gardaí, because she had doubts about his fidelity.

Mr Quigley is charged with the theft of the ATM containing cash from Bank of Ireland, Teeling St, Tubbercurry, shortly after 5am on January 29, 2014. He is also charged with possession of stolen property and criminal damage.

He denies all charges.
