Woman held ‘against her will’

Gardaí are investigating the alleged false imprisonment of a 19-year-old woman in Dublin.

Thought to be of eastern European origin, she was released from a property in Tyrrelstown Dublin 15, on Tuesday.

A garda spokesperson told the Irish Examiner that an investigation is ongoing in relation to the alleged crime.

“Gardaí are investigating an alleged false imprisonment of a 19-year-old woman in Dublin on August 9. A man in his 20s was arrested as part of the investigation but was released without charge.

“A file will be prepared for the DPP,” the spokesperson said.

Gardaí did not make a comment on the specific location of the false imprisonment.

However, David McGuinness an independent councillor in the area, told the Irish Examiner that there had been a heavy garda presence in Tyrrelstown earlier this week.

“The evening the gardaí went to the home, there was a huge garda presence and no one knew why,” said councillor McGuinness.

“It’s hard to believe this would happen,” he said.

Mr McGuinness said that Tyrrelstown is a diverse community of several thousand people and therefore, not everyone would know their neighbour.

“Tyrellstown has 2,300 housing units, it’s a large-scale development that’s more than 10-years-old. It’s a very diverse ethnic community, with people of African and Asian descent.

“It’s one residential estate but given the sheer number of houses you wouldn’t know everyone there,” he said.

“Everyone is speculating, but what seems likely is that security was notified by the person who raised the alarm. No one in the area knows anything about it, so it’s very shocking,” said Mr McGuinness.
