Widow and father-in-law charged over Jason Corbett killing

The US-based widow and father-in-law of slain Limerick man Jason Corbett have been charged with causing his death.

Molly Martens Corbett, 32, and her father Thomas Martens, 65, appeared in a North Carolina court yesterday and were subsequently granted bail. They have been charged with second degree murder and voluntary manslaughter.

The pair surrendered themselves by appointment at the Davidson County courthouse. They were arrested, photographed and fingerprinted and appeared before the Superior Court.

Bail of $200,000 (€186,000) was granted.

If convicted of second degree murder, the pair could face up to 40 years in prison. If convicted of voluntary manslaughter, they could face up to 17 years. The trial date has yet to be set.
