A WALK-ON role in Fair City is among several items up for auction at the Cork Simon Ball.
Friends and supporters of Cork Simon gathered at the Kiln at Heineken Ireland, yesterday as details of the White Tie and Tiara Ball was launched.
It will take place on Friday, June 10 at the Fota Island Resort.
Volunteer organiser Fiona Murphy said thanks to the generous sponsorship of Heineken Ireland and Bord Gáis, every cent raised go directly to supporting people who are homeless in Cork.
Organised by volunteers Ms Murphy, Victoria Luke and Liosa O’Sullivan, this year’s ball will mark Cork Simon’s 40th anniversary.
Master of ceremonies George Hook will preside over an evening of fabulous food, superb entertainment and first-class prizes.
Each guest will be included in the Champaign Raffle, which has a prize fund in excess of €€7,000, and in a special 40th-anniversary raffle, made possible by a Continental Airlines donation of flights for two to New York.
The annual Simon Ball Auction will feature a range of special items, including:
nLunch for 10 served in your home by Les Gourmandises Restaurant, winner of the Best Restaurant in Ireland Award for 2011.
nA walk-on role on RTE’s Fair City.
nA meet and greet with the Irish rugby team.
nPrivate cookery lessons for eight people at Carmel Somers’ critically acclaimed Good Things Café.
nA painting by contemporary artist Bill Griffin, donated by Buckley Fine Art Gallery.
Ms Murphy said the fundraising event represents Cork at its best.
“It’s people believing in people, doing what they can to help ensure that those less fortunate have an opportunity to make things better,” she said.
