Two men die in Donegal accidents over weekend

Two men died in Donegal at the weekend, one in a car crash and the other, yesterday morning, in a house fire.

A car and a van were involved in the collision on the N56 at Brenter outside Dunkineely at approximately 10.45pm on Saturday.

The van driver, a 30-year-old male, died at the scene. His remains were taken to Letterkenny General Hospital where an autopsy was due to be carried out yesterday.

Another 21-year-old man, the driver of the car, was injured.

The accident happened on a notorious stretch of road between the villages of Inver and Dunkineely on the N56.

A Garda forensics team spent the day at the scene as a full investigation was carried out.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to the crash to contact them at Ballyshannon Garda Station on 071 985 8530 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.

Meanwhile, an elderly man died in a house fire. He was found the Derryconnor area of Gortahork in the Donegal gaeltacht yesterday morning. The body of the 87-year-old, who lived alone, was discovered at 7am by a passerby.
