Son is jailed for abusive late-night texts to mother

Nasty and abusive text messages were sent, late at night, by a young man to his own mother, putting her in such fear she called the gardaí.

Judge Leo Malone said yesterday at Cork District Court the accused, Dean Cremin, had been on a safety order from the court requiring him not to put his mother in fear.

Imposing a five-month jail sentence, the judge said: “This man has no regard for any order of the court.”

As he was escorted from the courtroom to begin a jail sentence, he shouted: “Scumbag, f***ing retard.”

Inspector John Deasy said Cremin had turned up outside his mother’s house at Inchera Close in Mahon, Cork, and stayed there for a long time.

“He sent nasty and abusive text messages to his mother putting her in fear. He was arrested at St Michael’s Road, Mahon after 2am.”

Cremin pleaded guilty to breaching a safety order by putting his mother in fear through his behaviour.

Insp Deasy said Cremin had 76 previous convictions including six for engaging in threatening behaviour and three for carrying knives.

Solicitor Frank Buttimer said the accused had been out of trouble for 18 months, and had spent a successful nine months in a rehabilitation centre in Wicklow. He was put out of the family home after he relapsed and took tablets in recent days.
