Don’t get excited Garth Brooks fans, it’s not him — that was all MCD Promotions would confirm after it invited the press to a media briefing tomorrow where details of a "headline act" will be announced for Croke Park.
The concert promoter was remaining extremely tight-lipped last night as to the identity of the act... all they would confirm was that there would only be one concert and it will be in 2015.
Even the part of the year in which the gig will be staged was being kept a secret.
The one piece of information it would impart was that the act itself would be in attendance and would take part in a question-and-answer session and pose for photographs.
As soon as the press conference was announced, the rumour mill went into overdrive.
Could it be U2, beginning a world tour with their new album?
Or perhaps even One Direction who are due to embark on a European tour next year?
Others even raised the possibility of a Jason Orange-less Take That showing up.
Could the Croke Park concert be Take That? If it's anyone else I don't care.— Ciara ☁️ (@lollipocalypse_) October 29, 2014
There is no doubt that whatever “headline act” it is will struggle to match the publicity courted by the last lined-up act to play at the stadium.
A return to these shores by the country and western superstar so soon after the controversy certainly would have been a turn-up for the Brooks.
