A TURKEY plucker, a giant gooseberry and the world’s smallest cow are just some of the record-breakers that have made it into the latest Guinness World Records book.
Among the records in this year’s book, which is in its 55th year, are the Longest-lasting Lightning Storm (on Saturn for eight months) the Longest Hair (18 feet, 5 inches) and the World’s Shortest Man (Edward Hernandez who measures just 70cm).
Irish record-breakers in the 2011 edition include Limerick man Simon Baker, who holds the record for being the Fastest Marathon Runner on Crutches after clocking in at six hours and 47 minutes – smashing the record by 26 minutes.
Unlike the previous record holder, Mr Baker ran the 26 miles 385 yards without the assistance of a prosthetic leg, relying only on one leg and a pair of crutches.
Also featuring in the new edition is Guinness World Record favourite Vincent Pilkington from Co Cavan, who has held the record of Fastest Turkey Plucker since he de-feathered a turkey in one minute and 30 seconds in 1980.
Guinness World Records Official Irish Adjudicator Katie Forde said she was hoping to see more Irish people breaking records.
“There are so many fantastic records in the book this year and it would be great to see some of them coming from Ireland.”
