International visitors to Cork will be greeted with some of the country’s most breathtaking vistas as soon as they step off their flight, thanks to a new exhibition at the city’s airport.

Local photographer John Hall’s collection of expansive seascapes and Irish faces will be on show at Cork Airport for August, offering visitors a glimpse of some of Ireland’s beautiful scenery.

Entitled ‘Twilight Seascapes and Other Stories’, the exhibition carries landscape photographs taken at sunrise and sunset, and also features portraits that show people across Ireland.

While featuring scenic imagery that includes shots of the Lee Valley, Connemara, and the Mizen skyline, the exhibition also showcases Mr Hall’s portrait work.

These striking pictures depict horse traders at work, people taking in Puck Fair and other candid photographs of everyday occurrences.

Mr Hall, who has been a photographer for over 30 years, says the exhibition is long overdue.

“My last exhibition was in the Cork Vision Centre, and that was going on 10 years ago,” Mr Hall said.

“Since then I’ve built a significant body of work that I’ve been keen to get out there into the public eye.

“I’m delighted to have them out there in a venue like Cork Airport. Their footfall is huge at this time of year and it has opened my work up to a significant number of people who wouldn’t see it if it was at a gallery,” he said.

As Cork Airport is constantly on the lookout for ways to make the terminal interesting for passengers, it welcomed Mr Hall’s suggestion that he provide the building with his work.

As hinted by the portraits in his exhibition, Mr Hall’s next work will focus on faces.

“Already working on my next body of work, I like to take on projects, and my next works will be Celtic Faces.

“I’ll be heading along to steam rallies and horse fairs building a portfolio over the next 12 months or so, working on monochrome images,” he said.
