A mystery romantic, who is hoping this year will be the year he meets ‘the one’, has literally pinned his hopes on the matchmaking festival.
The man, who does not wish to be named, has pinned his open love letter on the wall of the Hydro Hotel in Lisdoonvarna and is hoping a lovely lady in her 60s might become his best friend to share the rest of his time with.
He is looking for an active lady who is willing to commit to a lasting relationship so they can take care of each other as they get older. His offer include the prospect of winter travel as well as sharing his “nice home and car” in Britain.
The man, who comes from Loughglynn in Roscommon, has been living in the UK since he was 18 years of age but returned to Ireland in early September to find a partner. He has three grown sons and has been divorced for the past 10 years, but is looking for a fresh start with an “honest and trustworthy” woman.
He came to Lisdoonvarna two weeks ago but has yet to meet with matchmaker Willie Daly. Instead, he decided to take matters into his own hands by writing the love letter.
“I am taking this very seriously,” he said. “I put up the note about a week ago now. I haven’t spent too much time meeting people at the festival, so I thought that this would be a way of getting some kind of response.
“The years are going by and my sell-my date is running out. I have family but I like my independence. I would like to have a companion, my best friend with me to share my time with and to take care of each other as we get older.”
The man says that he prefers to manage his own romantic affairs and will not contact MrDaly unless his own search come to nothing. He says he has already spoken to two interested people, but neither of them proved compatable.
“I didn’t run in him [Willie Daly],” he said. “To be honest I am trying to avoid him if I can. I want to take this matter into my own hand.
“We are coming into the last few weekend of the matchmaking festival and I am hoping that the crowd will be bigger and the cream of the crop will come to the surface.”
The man is looking for an unattached women in her 60s who would be free to live with him in his UK home in the summer and travel with him during the winter.
“This is a fantastic opportunity,” he said. “I’m a straight, honest guy but that will have to work both ways. The person would want to be serious and be prepared to make a commitment. I am a senior retired person and I am looking for a woman who knows her own mind. I am looking for a woman to see that this offer is open and honest and sincere.
“I’d like to send some time away in the winter in a warmer climate. It is good for my health and I like to do it. I would be looking for this person to travel with me in the winter and to live with me in the UK during the rest of the year. So it important that the person is free from attachments, maybe a retired person.”
