Dairy farmers can be confident that independent milk testing in Ireland is to the highest international standard, claims Ireland East MEP Máiréad McGuinness.
Welcoming the accreditation by the Irish National Accreditation Board (INAB) of IML Milk testing laboratories in Bailieboro, Co Cavan, Ms McGuinness said this accreditation was a first in Ireland.
“IML has proven itself in the excellent results it achieves in international accuracy ring trials. The awarding of the ISO17025 confirms its position as the country’s leading milk testing laboratory,” said the Fine Gael MEP.
“We now have an independent laboratory fully accredited to international best practice which is setting new standards for testing in the dairy industry. This is important for farmers, for the industry and for securing our markets.”
Ms McGuinness said Irish dairy farmers can be confident that the results from IML are to the highest standards as they are constantly benchmarked against international standards.
Accurate testing of milk is essential not just because milk price is linked to test results, but also for testing for quality parameters and animal health parameters, she added.
The IML facility provides independent and accredited milk testing services and was formed as a joint venture between Progressive Genetics and National Milk Records.
