A short time ago on an island not so far away... Hollywood came to Skellig Michael off the Kerry coast.
That was in July, when filming of the latest Star Wars movie began.
The cast and crew of the upcoming movie — including director JJ Abrams and the Jedi Knight Luke Skywalker (actor Mark Hamill) — were on Skellig Michael amid tight security that even included an Irish navy ship monitoring the waters around the island.
Apart from the actors and crew, the only creatures to see a scene from Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens were the thousands of birds that live on the islands.
Filming took place close to the domed rooftops of the monastery buildings high on the skyline of the 200m cliff on Skellig Michael.
Now the Skelligs could be about to debut in just 30 cinemas across the US, as director JJ Abrams unveils the very first trailer for the seventh Star Wars instalment.
A fake teaser trailer that features a shot of the rugged majesty of Sceilig Beag taken from the larger, more famous island, has already become a hit online. The short video, featuring old footage and clips from other fan films, has received almost 3m hits on Youtube.
Fans must wait till later today for the real thing to appear on iTunes. The film is slated for a December 2015 release.
