Dingle sexual assault claim

Gardaí in Dingle yesterday confirmed they are investigating an alleged sexual assault in the town on Monday.

The incident came hours after street celebrations in the Kerry town for a GAA provincial victory by a secondary school.

Following a complaint, a young woman was taken to the sexual assault unit of a Cork hospital for an examination.

An appeal for witnesses was issued yesterday.

The alleged incident took place in the Spa Road, on the Connor Pass side of the Kerry town, between midnight and 2am on Monday.

A technical examination was carried out at the scene yesterday and an area around three parked cars was sealed off.

Large numbers of people were on the streets of Dingle on Sunday night following a parade and celebrations to welcome home a team from Pobal-scoil Chorca Dhuibhne, who won the Munster Colleges senior football championship for the first time.

Some people may have seen what happened, said gardaí, who have appealed to anyone who was in the vicinity of the Spa Rd between midnight and 2am, and who may have information, to come forward.
