Election letter: Fianna Fáil’s stance on abortion may help them

I have heard no political comment from any media on the fact that the party who is pushing the ‘Repeal the Eighth Amendment’ agenda hardest (Labour) is the one whose support has nosedived, while the one who has stated that they will not seek to abolish the eighth Amendment (Fianna Fáil) is the party whose support has increased.

I can only imagine the media response if Labour support went up dramatically — it would, of course, be because Irish people have been longing to adopt UK abortion laws!

Aodhán O Ríordáin, as he presented the Labour abortion agenda last week, said: “I think Fianna Fáil’s position on this is archaic, out of touch, and that is very much the reason why we need to make sure they don’t return to government in any form”.

It is looking like Labour is the party arrogantly out of touch and who should not be returned to government.
