A WHIZZKID who got seven As in his Leaving Cert last year is offering a free one-day revision course of the entire maths syllabus.
Running in conjunction with Engineers Ireland tomorrow, Cillian Fahy, from Co Clare promises a fresh outlook on the higher-level exam.
Mr Fahy, from New Quay, hit the headlines when he put his Leaving Cert notes up for auction on internet shopping site eBay to raise money for college.
Now studying at Trinity College Dublin, he said the free course offered a welcome alternative to expensive grinds. He said there are still places available and urged interested students to sign up.
“Engineers Ireland offer free maths classes on their website and that’s something I really support. So I was really happy to organise this free course with them to help students with higher-level maths — the most difficult Leaving Cert subject,” he said.
“The course is designed to prepare students directly for the exam. It’s aim is to allow students to take everything they have learnt in class and learn what that really means for their exam.”
His venture, although free, will flag a paid-for course Mr Fahy is planning to run in August.
Also aimed at higher-level maths students, this course is for those just going into their final year and will cost €100 for a weekend.
According to Mr Fahy, it offers a chance for students to get ahead even before the year starts.
“I am not a dusty old teacher. I did the exam last year and I know where I went wrong with my studying so I can offer great insight and tips and focus in on what the exam is all about.”
The weekend course will run in Galway, Cork and Dublin. More information can be found at www.cillianfahy.ie/maths-course.
Tomorrow’s course will take place in Engineers Ireland, 22 Clyde Road, Ballsbridge, Dublin 4 from 9am until 5.30pm.
