Driver dies as car hits tree

A 28-YEAR-OLD man was killed when his car left the road and hit a tree in Co Laois, gardaí said yesterday.

The crash happened on the N8 at Watercastle, Durrow, shortly before 10pm last night. The driver was travelling alone.

The death takes the number of people killed on Irish roads so far this year to 143.

Gardaí at Abbeyleix are investigating.
