Cars and drugs seized in crime gangs crackdown

Gardaí seized a number of cars as well as drugs in an ongoing crackdown on organised criminals who have been stealing vehicles in house burglaries across Dublin.

As part of Operation Thor, officers searched a car on the N11 in Co Wexford yesterday afternoon. They found car parts which were believed to be stolen and a man in his 50s was arrested. He was last night being held at Tallaght garda station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

In a follow-up operation officers searched premises in the Summerhill area of Co Meath and found an Audi A4 and an Audi A3 as well as Volkswagen Golf which was partially dismantled. They also found 4kg of cannabis herb with an estimated street value of €80,000.

During a search of a property in Wicklow an Audi A5, an Audi A1 and a Hyundai Tuscan were recovered, all believed to be stolen earlier in burglaries.

Gardaí said the investigation into the distribution network for stolen car parts is ongoing.

Earlier this week as part of Operation Thor gardaí seized an Audi A5, an Audi A4 Estate, a rigid inflatable boat among other items in Co Meath.
