Jay-Z and Beyoncé Knowles have topped Forbes magazine’s world’s highest paid celebrity couples list for 2012 — and Beyoncé is the bigger earner.
The power pair are estimated to have made $78m (€63.1m) together in the financial year ending May 1, moving them from second place in last year’s list, behind American football star Tom Brady and supermodel Gisele Bündchen, to first.
According to Forbes, Beyoncé earned more in the past year than her husband, amassing $40m from sponsorship deals, album sales, and royalties from her back catalogue.
Beyoncé also took time off to have the couple’s first baby, daughter Blue Ivy, who was born in January.
Rapper Jay-Z made an estimated $38m from his Watch the Throne album and tour with Kanye West, continuing sales of his Decoded book, as well as his business interests, including a nightclub and Roc Nation record label, management, and music publishing company.
Gisele and quarterback Brady brought in an estimated $72m from her lucrative career deals and his four-year, $72m contract extension with the New England Patriots.
Brady also made a foray into modelling, signing contracts with Under Armour and Ugg Boots.
Third on the list are fashion designer Victoria and soccer player David Beckham, worth $54m.
Hollywood couples came in fourth and fifth, with Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie banking $45m and Will and Jada Pinkett Smith ($40m).
The closest thing to an Irish interest on the list must be Wozilroy, the superstar sports combination that is Danish tennis ace Caroline Wozniacki and Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy. At just 23, Rory is worth an estimated €9m, while Wozniacki was named second in the 2011 Forbes magazine listings of highest paid female athletes with a cool €10m in the bank.
