Best man sat in pool of baked beans in Cork to win groom €25k wedding package

The moment childhood sweethearts Frank Brennan and Susan McCarthy realise they have won the €25,000 dream wedding

One man’s selfless and bizarre act has ensured his best friend won’t stay a ‘Batchelor’ for long.

Brian Hegarty sat in a paddling pool of baked beans for two hours on Cork’s Patrick St to help win a €25,000 wedding package for his friend Frank Brennan, 26, and his fiancée Susan McCarthy, 27.

Frank & Susan are the second last couple who have qualified for the Wedding Journal Show €25K Wedding Grand Final thanks to their friend Brian Hegarty who had to sit in a paddling pool full of baked beans for an hour in one of the busiest spots in Cork City!

The competition, run by Cork’s Red FM, challenged members of the public to undertake bizarre challenges in order to secure their friends a place in the competition final.

“My buddy Brian Hegarty sat in beans for this. He’s my best buddy since college and he’s a lunatic. He’d do anything for us,” Frank said.

Another challenge saw one woman get the names of her daughter and future son-in-law, along with Red FM, tattooed on her back in an attempt to win the prize.

However, Susan and Frank took the spoils on Sunday at the live final at The Wedding Journal Show in Cork’s Clayton Hotel Silversprings.

Frank was one of four others to kneel in front of his partner on stage and open a ring box — however only one contained the winning ring.

“I felt as if it wasn’t real, I couldn’t see the ring box immediately but I noticed that everyone was looking at me, I saw Sue’s reaction and I realised we had won. I think I jumped 15 feet off the ground,” Frank said.

Frank, from Ballinlough, and Susan, from Douglas, have known each other since they first met as eight-year-olds in summer camp.
