Over 50% of appeals to department had some success

More than half of the landowners who appealed unfavourable decisions by the Department of Agriculture in 2011 achieved some success.

There were 827 appeals. Most were in the Single Farm Payment Scheme (324), REPS (236), Suckler Cow Welfare Scheme (83), and Afforestation Grant Scheme (55).

Appeals Officers accepted the case put forward by the appellant and overturned the penalty in 106 cases.

Appeals Officers decided that a reduced or lesser penalty should apply in 77 cases. In 182 cases, the department revised its original decision, based on new information submitted by the appellant.

There is no decision yet in 92 cases, 379 appeals were not upheld.

In the Single Farm Payment Scheme, penalties were reduced or overturned in 31 cases. The department revised its original decision in 127 cases, 126 appeals were not upheld, 40 are not yet decided.
