New names feature in Midleton’s Hereford Championship

New entrants to the breed society are featuring in Hereford sales and shows around the country — among them Anthony McCarthy of Gurrane, Banteer.

His Hereford Championship win at last Sunday’s Midleton Show was his third this spring, following wins at Bandon and at the Kingdom County Fair in Tralee.

At Midleton, his eight-month-old Banteer 1 Gem won the heifer calf class.

The Dernaroy 1 Hawke, Udel 1 Bl Coral Gem, heifer continued to impress the judges last Sunday, and finished up as the supreme champion Hereford.

Lakelodge Joe 7 won a bull calf class for Henry Dudley, Dovea, Co Tipperary, and went to be the overall reserve supreme champion Hereford — adding to Dudley’s and his Kilsunny Herd’s recent Athlone Hall of Fame award.
