Machinery fans are spoiled for choice next week, as LAMMA 2016 in the UK, and coser to home in Co Cork, Millstreet’s Q8 Farm Machinery Show, both open their exhibitions next Wednesday and Thursday.
The Millstreet event will attract thousands of local farmers and contractors to the Green Glens Arena (more information on pages 17-19), while one of the largest machinery exhibitions in western Europe will have many launches for UK and international visitors, at LAMMA in Peterbrough, England.
Here are my selected highlights at next week’s LAMMA 2016 show, set on a 125-acre site with 1.5 million square feet of exhibition space.
Herdwatch have been shortlisted for an innovation award at LAMMA.
Their UK version will be launched at the event.
Herdwatch is a Farming App which saves dairy, suckler and beef farmers hours on paperwork and Bord Bia compliance.
The Irish are further represented by McHale Engineering with the new ProGlide mower range.
It incorporates patented ground-following technology, using springs with a compensator mechanism to maintain consistent pressure regardless of working height.
One of the most obvious highlights at the LAMMA 2016 show will be the John Deere 9RX four-track tractor.
This is the first opportunity for many in the UK and Ireland to see the four-tracked giant.
As an extra bonus to visitors, its big competitor, Case IH Quadtrac, will also be on display.
Staying with the big horse power, the 500hp range topping Fendt 1050 will make its first UK and Irish appearance at the show.
Also on display for the first time will be the Fendt Katana 85.
The 850hp forage harvester features six feed rollers.
Massey Ferguson will make a smaller tractor their star attraction.
Their award-winning 4700 Global Series sits in the 75 to 95 horsepower range and comes to the event after a successful Agritechnica awards circuit.
Massey Ferguson will also show the new MF 2200 ProCut large square baler, which introduces clamp-on rotor fringes and other new features designed to increase capacity, with a finer, more uniform chop.
The Black Warrior will be on the Deutz-Fahr stand.
This special edition specification model is available across a number of higher horsepower tractors.
It offers an enhanced lighting package, cab upgrades, and improved hydraulic and electronic features.
The first JCB telehandlers produced to the Stage IV/Tier 4 specification will make their UK debut.
The lack of an external exhaust silencer is about the only visible clue to the significant under-bonnet changes.
Bobcat will be showing the company’s new TL358+ AGRI 6m and TL470HF AGRI 7m telehandlers.
As well as a 40 km/h transmission and 24 inch tyres, these also feature as standard a Sears high comfort air suspension seat and premium cab finish (deluxe steering wheel, armrest, etc).
Kuhn Farm Machinery will have the FC 3125 F on display.
The new front-mounted disc mower conditioner with a 3.1m working width features improved terrain-following capabilities and variable conditioning speeds.
When used in combination with a rear-mounted twin mower conditioner, either the FC 8830 D or FC 9530 D, a total working width of up to 9.5 metres is possible.
Kverneland will have the exciting new 2500 I-Plough on display.
The plough incorporates ISOBUS to replace many of the manual plough settings with touch-of-a-button technology.
Amazone plan a host of launches over 2016.
The Catros+ 12003-2TS is one — a specialist tool for quick, shallow, stubble tillage, creating the ideal conditions for grass weed seeds and volunteers to germinate.
It has a 12-metre working width, and folds to a compact 3-metre transport width.
Shelbourne Reynolds is to launch a new range of Powermix vertical auger diet feeders.
The Powermix Plus models have twin augers, available in 16, 18 and 22-cubic metre capacity. They are all available with single or tandem axles.
SlurryKat has developed a new range of umbilical hose reels that can be interchanged by unhooking just one pin.
The range has been in test since 2012, and launches at LAMMA.
Tanco will launch an updated loader-mounted wrapper.
The VS200 loader-mounted version is primarily for working at the storage point, because it can wrap and then place a bale in a stack.
It is stronger and bigger than the previous model, and can work with load-sensing tractor hydraulics without modification.
Suzuki ATV will show the KingQuad 400 on their stand.
A new Cesar Security System powered by datatag will be introduced as standard.
The new Vredo 3m Agri Air Overseeder also has presents at the show.
It is designed for smaller pastures with slopes or undulating terrain and offers increased stability and manoeuvrability.
The Agri Air features a hydraulically-driven fan, allowing seed types such as rye or barley to be sown in addition to grass seed.
