Featured on these pages on the edition of July 21 last, a 35-acre holding in the townland of Curraclogh near Lissarda was recently sale agreed, we have learned, for a figure in excess of its asking price of €450,000 (€12,800/acre).
The property was in a trend-setting agricultural zone to the west of Cork, near Macroom. The auctioneer involved was Killian Lynch of Macroom, and it attracted a strong degree of interest after it was put on the market on July 19, receiving its first offer of €350,000 very quickly.
The level of interest continued, such that the auctioneers decided to make a call for final offers on the property by the September 8, 2016.
The Curraclogh land was a farm that had been maintained to a very high standard, according to the selling agents, with good access and fine quality fields laid out in nine divisions.
At the centre of the property stood the ruins of the T-shaped Curraclogh House, surrounded by mature trees.
Such sizes of property can often attract a lot of bidders.
This kind of holding would be coveted equally by expanding dairy farmers, beef farmers, hobby farmers or someone looking to recreate a very special residence with land that they plan to rent out, or keep a few animals on it.
The fact that this sale appears to have exceeded what was already a very strong asking price may not come as too much of a surprise when one considers that it is close to where a 49-acre farm sold for €18,500/acre last November.
The three-yard farm is surrounded by an ideal mixture of farming activity, from large dairying enterprises to top-quality horse-breeders.
The joint agents, Dominic Daly and Mike Brady, have set the date of October 4 next for final bids on this uniquely large quality farm.
