Last featured in these pages over two years ago, the very impressive estate of Newhall House in Co Clare is due to be sold at public auction on June 9 at the Old Ground Hotel in Ennis.

Dublin-based auctioneer Owen Reilly Property Consultants and Sotheby’s International Realty are joint agents in the sale of the 310-acre property.

The unique holding is located just under 6km from Ennis town centre, 8km from the M18 motorway, and 27km from Shannon Airport.

Although most of the attention will be focused on the magnificent 18th-century mansion (a superb historical pile in apparently good structural condition but in need of a very expensive renovation project), there is a large amount of good quality land up for sale too.

“There’s plenty of very good quality pasture land within the grounds,” says joint agent Owen Reilly, who points out that the 230-acre holding in Lot 4 is the one that will pique the interest of farmers around the country.

This quality farm is price guided at €1,350,000 (€5,900/acre).

For a farmer (or farmers) with the sufficient depth of pocket, it represents a rare opportunity to get a large tract of good farmland in Clare.

There’s no guarantee that anyone will get the chance on the day.

The goal of the auctioneers is to sell the house, hopefully with all 310 acres on it.

Given the unique architectural and historical features of this estate, it would be a rare opportunity as a restoration project to rival Ballyfin House.

If the right millionaire doesn’t turn up on the day, however, the agricultural holding will come into play.
