€220m LEADER fund allocated by county

LEADER funding of €220 million for rural projects ranging from tourism to agri-food has been allocated county by county.

Previously allocated to individual local action groups, LEADER 2014-2020 is based on administrative county boundaries, due to the Government reconfiguring local and rural development.

Expression of interests and selection processes for local development strategies will begin shortly, as the first step towards projects ideas emerging from the communities.

The 2007-2013 LEADER funding went to 8,698 enterprises which supported creation of 4,084 jobs.

Allocations for 2014-2020 in Munster are €8.9m in Co Clare, €14m in Co Cork, €10.2m in Co Kerry, €9.3m in Co Limerick, €10.1m in Co Tipperary, and €7.5m in Co Waterford.

An additional €15m is allocated to two agri-food measures.

A further €10m will support co-operation projects with a particular cross-border emphasis.

And €5m will be held in reserve, pending results of a rural economic development zones pilot project.
