Clonakilty celebrates with jiving at the agricultural show

Country came to town last Sunday as a tourist town celebrated its new streetscape after months of upheaval due to resurfacing and drainage works.

Once the prize livestock had been looked after and returned to their farms, the attendance jived the evening away at the Country and Western themed Clonakilty Agricultural Show.

With Eamonn Jackson, a rising star of Irish country music, topping the bill, the show’s Keeping it Country theme also handed out awards for the best town shop window with a country theme, won by the Jelly Fish Surf Shop.

With the best of beef and dairy animals and horses and sheep also on display, both surf and turf were catered for, with the town’s BIM Seafood Development Centre and Southern Star newspaper combining with the Show to stage the All Ireland Wild Atlantic Way Secondary School Cook-Off, won by Colaiste Na Toirbhirte, Bandon.

This weekend, the agricultural show circuit moves onto Cork, with the Munster Agricultural Society’s Cork Summer Show at Curraheen on Saturday and Sunday.
