Man's best friend: Loyal dog refused to leave owner's side after fall

They say dogs are a man's best friend, but one owner in Co Laois has reason to be especially thankful for his loyal companion.

An elderly man was out walking with his dog Jack in Portarlington last night and fell into a ditch.

The man was unable to get up from the fall, but luckily he had his faithful pet to assist emergency services in finding him.

When gardaí arrived at the scene, they learned the man's location from Jack who showed them the way after refusing to move from his owner's side.

Even when an ambulance arrived, Jack wouldn't rest until his owner was safely inside.

Both man and dog are at home now.

A good boy if ever there was one!
