Here are Ireland’s most watched YouTube videos of 2017

Ireland’s most watched videos of 2017 have been announced by YouTube.

The list shows what caught the nation’s interest this year, with some surprising results.

Not surprising, however, is that the list is dominated by Irish music - claiming the top four spots.

Mick Konstantin’s tribute to UFC champion Conor McGregor ahead of his ill-fated fight with Floyd Mayweather was Ireland’s most-watched video of 2017.

The 24-year-old teacher wrote and performed the simple track which quickly went viral.

And, if snagging top place wasn’t good enough - Mick made it into the list twice, with the original upload of the song coming in at sixth.

The Irish music trend continues in the top spots as the second most watched video was a stirring rendition of the ballad Green Fields of France sung by Finbar Furey and Christy Dignam on the Late Late Show in January, while in third place are young Irish brothers Seán and Conor Price performing a modern take on Bob Dylan’s All Along the Watchtower on X Factor.

In fourth, Coláiste Lurgan’s as Gaeilge cover of Despacito (aka “I Do Dhiaidh Chomh”) placed them in the list again this year.

Also featured in our top ten list, which does not feature major label music videos, are two Carpool Karaoke videos, Melissa McCarthy impersonating Sean Spicer on SNL and Jimmy Kimmel interviewing the famous ’bat dad’ family.

The most popular movie trailer of the year in Ireland, for Star Wars: The Last Jedi, also has an Irish connection through featuring Skellig Michael.
