World Cup boosts sports goods sales

Frankfurt: Adidas, the world’s second largest sporting goods maker, jumped in Frankfurt trading after reporting a surge in profit on soccer’s World Cup.

The shares rose as much as €2.28, or 5.5%, to €43.93, the steepest intraday gain since September 16.

Second-quarter net income increased to €126m from €9m a year earlier, Adidas said.
