VIDEO: Tesco replacing ’shouty’ self-checkout voice; No plans to get rid of it in Ireland

"Unexpected item in bagging area", they’re five innocent little words that send most of us bonkers at the supermarkets.

But their days are numbered in Tesco, because the retailer is getting rid of them along with the "shouty" and "irritating" voice that gets on your nerves.

According to European Supermarket Magazine, Tesco are bringing in a "friendlier" voice after customers complained that the current voice "leaves them a bit frustrated".

So now, instead of "Unexpected item in bagging area", you will be greeted with a cuddlier "This can now be placed in your bag".

The new "softer" and "more customer-friendly" voice will offer a variation on the "unhelpful" phrases we've grown to know and loathe. Have a listen to the old-style voice and the new, smoother one.

The UK will be hearing the new Tesco voice by the end of October, but there has been no mention of when the change will be heard in Irish branches.

In fact, Tesco Ireland said: "We have no plans at present to make any changes to our self-service machines in stores."

Screech!
