Hidden away gem with loads of space

ABOUT two miles north-west of Waterfall village in Co Cork there are rolling hills and a smattering of houses on the way to Bandon.

Set off a narrow country lane, part of a capillary systems of roads in this townland, is an unpretentious, dormer bungalow called Corran Lodge.

Finished in Ballydesmond stone and with a low roofline, the house is sweet and simple, but the facade belies the quality of the interior and its sheer size.

This house has about 2,500sq ft of space over two floors on a site of three-quarters of an acre.

It’s on the market with Norma Healy of Sherry FitzGerald and as a five-year-old house, it’s finished to a tee: from the large, stone-fronted garage, to the professionally landscaped gardens and shrub beds, to the interior. Corran Lodge is a walk-in job at €560,000.

There’s a very original feel here — the house has a country style, but with some expensive flourishes, like the double-height kitchen with exposed, waxed beams, top quality oak kitchen, with granite tops and a range of good quality flooring and fittings.

These range from wide plank oak to quality travertine to polished porcelain and the bathrooms use the same materials with colour kept to a single theme, for the most part.

There are three, double bedrooms on the ground floor, including a guest suite and a main bathroom and overhead, there’s a large, master suite with walk-in and walk-around dressing room.

Again, where elements are chosen for the interior, only the best is used and the bathroom here is also tumbled marble with granite sink and cherrywood unit.

There’s a lot of wood, rich colours and lush, heavy drapes with good furniture: this house is also as neat as a new pin.

There are two main reception rooms, both with quality fireplaces, a large and well-fitted kitchen/dining-room and access to a trellised, external patio that’s created to be a safe, enclosed space for smallies.

The bedrooms are generous, beautifully finished, and two are ensuite, with the master suite taking up a huge space in the dormer.

Corran Lodge is only a couple of minutes to Ballincollig, has great country views and is also close to Waterfall and Bishopstown — yet is has utter, country privacy, without being remote.
