Moderate gains seen across Europe

THE ISEQ index closed up 60.64 points yesterday at 2,781.02 in line with other European bourses as banks and oil firms led the gains.

Bargainhunters were to the fore as they went looking for value among the struggling financial stocks.

The main Irish financial stocks had a mixed day. AIB jumped 29c to €3.41, Bank of Ireland fell 9c to €1.83, Anglo Irish Bank weakened 6c to €2.03 while Irish Life & Permanent added 22c to €3.69. FBD Holdings fell 50c to €11.50.

In the construction sector CRH added 46c to €14.50, Kingspan advanced 16c to €4.91 and Grafton moved up 7c to €2.23. In other news, Ryanair increased a further 12c to €2.39, Elan improved 17c to €6.75 ahead of its third quarter results on Thursday, C&C rose 6c to €1.22 while rose 66c to €10.26.
