Markets advance across Europe

Irish shares performed well yesterday, thus following the trend seen across all main European bourses.

The ISEQ index closed up 38.10 points at 3,359.34.

The financials were mixed as AIB and Bank of Ireland made gains. The former was up 0.2c at 10.9c while the latter was 1c or about 7% ahead at 14.5c. Irish Life and Permanent had a bad day, shipping 0.5c to finish at 4.2c.

Construction stocks had a positive day overall. Market heavyweight CRH gained 10.5c to €16.78 while Kingspan tacked on 10.1c to €8.20. Grafton Group followed suit, moving on 2c to €3.30.

Elsewhere, Providence Resources continued its stellar recent run by adding 24c to finish the week at €6.00. Support services company Siteserv was up 2c or 100% on news that the company’s board has agreed a €45.5m takeover with the Denis O’Brien-controlled vehicle Millington. Shares closed at 4c.
