The cash mountain at the firm behind the country’s best-known nightclub, Copper Face Jacks, passed a whopping €50m last year, as millions continued to roll into the business.
New accounts just filed by Cathal and Paula Jackson’s Breanagh Catering Ltd show that the firm earned a pre-tax profit of just under €5m, or €95,000 a week last year.
The pre-tax profit of €4.94m however in the 12 months to the end of January comes after it earned a profit of €5.55m in 2014, representing a drop of 11%.
The club — owned by former garda Cathal Jackson and housed in the Jackson Court Hotel on Dublin’s Harcourt St — has long since entered Dublin night time folklore and has amassed the massive cash pile over the years as a result of its enduring popularity.
The company’s cash pile jumped by €4.48m to €50.9m from €46.42m, and the firm’s accumulated profits stood at €63.3m.
The nightclub operates seven nights a week and contains six bars, two covered beer gardens and a “premium level”, which is a private room for private parties.
The nightclub remains the go-to night spot for victorious sports teams.
After Ireland qualified for Euro 2016 last November, many of the team decamped to the Harcourt St nightclub.
The storied venue has even launched its own brand of underwear — though the Copper’s underwear is only given out as prizes and in give aways.
The Copper’s phenomenon has also inspired a stage production, Copper’s Uncovered.
The directors’ pay for the Jacksons is not disclosed for last year.
In the previous year they paid themselves over €10,000 per week when they shared €611,786 in pay.
The numbers employed at the venue and the Jackson Court Hotel was unchanged at 193 people.
Staff costs last year fell 9% to €3.75m from €4.127m, including €3.46m in wages and €290,405 in social insurance costs.
The figures show that the firm’s gross profits last year fell 5% to €10.45m from €11m.
The company’s administrative costs of €5.4m resulted in an operating profit of €5m. It paid interest costs of €94,918.
The accounts put a book value of €10.7m on the company’s buildings.
In the year under review, Breanagh Catering Ltd secured planning permission for an additional 42 rooms at 28 to 31 Harcourt St.
