Labour party call for food summit

A FOOD summit — involving all stakeholders for local producers, large multiples and the farming community — was sought yesterday.

Labour party spokesman on agriculture and food Sean Sherlock, TD, made the call, saying a proactive policy that will guarantee food supply is needed.

“Collectively, we need to brainstorm our way through this matter and innovate to stem the tide of rising food price inflation and guarantee food supply into the future,” he said.

Food price inflation was hugely affecting those on marginal incomes, he said.
